Tara’s not been feeling 100% lately, with a recurring foot injury causing her some issues. As well as having an increase in her aloe vera supplement, and poulticing to help, she’s also had to have some antibiotics.
This led me to thinking about sharing a couple of tips to help tempt the “fussy eater” – not that Tara is normally fussy, but who can blame her having some powder added to her feed?!
Every horse is different of course and what may tempt one won’t necessarily tempt another, but Tara seemed to the food more appetising with these natural tempters:
- Ginger Biscuits (broken up)
- Dried Ginger – just a small sprinkle
- Honey – just a drizzle (I use Forever Bee Honey – 100% natural mountain honey)
This made the food smell tastier and more palatable.
Of course Tara also has lots of carrot in it to help it go down well too!
These could equally be used to help a dog who needs some tempting to eat his/her feed.
What are your tips to help your horse, pony, or dog have their medicine go down?
