Why Massage for Horses?

Hello 🙂

Has your horse had a massage recently?  Relieving stress and helping to maintain muscular health, are just two of the reasons why massage for horses is an ever-popular complementary therapy.

In this edition of my regular blog, find out more about how your horse could benefit from massage.  Please share this with your friends who also keep horses!

Ponies, horses and donkeys can all potentially benefit from Equine Sports Massage.  But what is it?

Equine Sports Massage is the therapeutic application of a variety of massage techniques. The masseur will look at the horse holistically, to consider what is the best application of the therapy for the individual horse.

When may it be useful?

Does your horse, pony or donkey:

  • Dislike being groomed?
  • Appear to have stiffness of movement?
  • Seem hollow-backed?
  • Tilt his/her head?
  • Holds their tail to one side?
  • Shake his/her head excessively?

These are just some of the signs that your equine may benefit from a massage.

Also, massage can be useful as part of both the warm-up and/or cool down before and after exercise.

Many people know the benefits of a massage to relax, or completing stretching exercises as part of an exercise regime, so why shouldn’t your equine also benefit?!

Can any type of equine benefit?

Yes! Large, small, young, older, leisure or competition horses can all find a massage helpful.
